Revit's Last Splash

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed and let down that Revit 2015 didn't even come with a fancy new splash screen to top off their turd sundae.

This morning  - I was spending my valuable time opening up both 2014 and 2015 in order to open a file (since I never have any idea what version is being used) so that I could immediately export what I needed and get it as far the fuck away from Revit as humanly possible and for a second I thought I had clicked on the wrong version because I got the same picture of blue rendered 3D vomit.  What in the fuck is that even supposed to be?

They probably put more work into changing the '4' to a '5' on the splash screen than they did on their 'all new API for wire' or the rest of their 'fixes', 'upgrades', etc. put together (except maybe sketchy lines - I'm pretty sure they spent considerable time on that one).  My best guess is that the idea of putting a new splash screen was floated and then shot down by someone who figured 'we really don't want to give people the false impression that we actually give a shit anymore (if we ever did in the first place)'.

I've always held that the splash screen gives away more than a little about the nature of Revit and the philosophy of those behind it.  Now that they've managed to eliminate the 'MeP' package a release or so ago, rolling it into the rest of their stinking pile of garbage, they don't even pretend to acknowledge that engineering disciplines MIGHT just be in need of functionality that escapes those who are used to developing software for architects.

Putting a single 'Systems' tab for Mechanical Ductwork, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Power, Lighting, Communications, Fire alarm, etc. etc. (which, I have been told that the Ribbon is now modifiable - but I haven't wasted any time trying to to do so), only shows continued disregard for those who lick the Revit balls and suck the Revit dick.

But back to the space-age looking bullshit that I have to look at for the time it takes Revit to wake up and get ready to go fuck itself - seriously WHAT IN THE FUCK IS THAT!?!?  It certainly is representative of the clusterfuck that Revit will turn even a basic project involving a simple building into - if that was their intention, then bravo motherfuckers, you nailed it (and then I could understand their keeping it around for a few releases).

They used to pay lip service to engineering disciplines by at least having a few real pieces of equipment show up as minor decoration to some kind of Architectural monstrosity that is representative of about .001% of the projects being done today.  It must be a blast for the people that get to work on those projects (not so much a blast for the people that have to see them pop up in their city and have to look at them every day).

I'm all for creative designs and outside-the-box thinking, but with a few exceptions, most of these designs end up failing to make the transition from 3d model to actual building without running headlong into serious re-designs due to annoying little things like expense, practicality, time frame, etc.

I've watched a church in my town get built that was somebodies attempt at thinking outside the box - but they got so far outside the box that they apparently stopped giving a shit what was inside the box until it was opened and the thing inside looked like a gimpy piece of shit.  They attempted to go for an exposed structure thing with bold angles and whatever - but the final result just looks like someone made a fucking mistake when they put it together.

Next time we are going to discuss whatever the fuck this thing is (note the same fucking splash screen):

It appears to be the future of Revit - a 'cloud hosted' (read: laggy and shitty) clusterfuck of even more epic proportions than previously thought capable.

I expect it to be laughable - at best.

Fuck Autodesk, Fuck Revit, and Fuck 'Sundial' - please feel free to choke on your own shit.

Sincerely,
S.F.

  1. Are you kidding? A cloud-hosted version of Revit? Imagine how much bandwidth you would need to run such a bloated piece of software.

  2. Less than you might think - provided you were willing to go without all basic functionality.

Which is already kind of Revit's thing anyway.
